In the fall of 2021 members of the community, along with school employees and students, met with the purpose of outlining priorities for the district. The result of those meetings is the USD 264 Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Plan, approved by the Board of Education in January, outlines four long-term goals: increase student achievement; implement student-centered, whole-child programming; develop deep relationships and engagement; and provide consistent and relevant communications.
Each goal is broken down into guiding statements. Those guiding statements will drive much of the new initiatives and strengthened focus for the district.
“Over the next months we will talk more in depth about each item, but you are going to hear a lot about these priorities,” said Superintendent Chris Cooper. “From the leadership team to the classroom, each item is important for the district to achieve our goals.”
One example that is under way concerns the guiding statement that we will leverage students’ abilities to produce and distribute content to help tell the district’s story. Next year the high school will offer a podcasting and vodcasting class which will give students the opportunity to be hands-on in conducting interviews and sharing stories.
The USD 264 vision is for “all students to reach their full potential and are well equipped to be successful.” This is the plan to get them there.
“I’m excited that the goals are student-centered,” said Cooper. “We believe that Clearwater is the best kept secret in the Wichita area. We have amazing people and there are many things we do well. Without abandoning what makes us great, the USD 264 Strategic Plan will help take us into the next decade of education.”
