Mrs. Blokzyl's Leadworthy Class is an elective course at Clearwater Intermediate-Middle School that teaches students about character and leadership. The class is open to 7th and 8th graders, and there is also a course offered to 6th graders taught by Mrs. Cash.
In October, the Leadworthy class visited the Clearwater Senior Center to deliver donated socks and spend time with the seniors. The students enjoyed playing games with the seniors and learning about their lives.
"The class was asked to come up with a project that would benefit the community," said Mrs. Blokzyl. "They kept circling back to wanting to do something with the seniors. Once we found their motivation, they came to a decision of how to make the connection with them."
Leadworthy Class is a great example of how students can make a difference in their community. The students were motivated to help the seniors and they came up with a creative way to do so. The visit to the Senior Center was a positive experience for both the students and the seniors.
