As a district, we are proud of Junior Hayley Trotter’s state championship in cross country. She ran the Wamego 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes and 26.6 seconds.
From Coach Cornwell: “Hayley has really matured as a racer. She executed her plan to start fast and push the pace early in hopes of separating from the field. Her combination of talent, confidence and competitiveness make her really tough to beat.”
KSHSAA has a great article about the state race titled “Healthy, happy Trotter leaves no doubt in assuming Class 4A state supremacy - Clearwater junior cruises to first state title”: https://kshsaacovered.com/news/2021/10/30/womens-cross-country-healthy-happy-trotter-leaves-no-doubt-in-assuming-class-4a-state-surpemecy.aspx
In the article, she remarks: "I came in confident, that's all you can really ask for. The plan was to get out quick, make those first two miles strong and then just try to hang on.”
This season follows an outstanding spring track season where Hayley was state champion in the 4A 800 meter run. Hayley also placed 3rd in the 1600 run and in the process set a new school record running 5:08.13.
Congratulations Hayley!
